House flies can often be seen around the eye area of equines, the fly is feeding off the liquid secretion from the eye. Obviously this can lead to inflamation and eye infection, although non-biting house flies are an annoyance to the horse and they can spread viruses.
If your horse is bothered by house flies around the eyes consider the use of a fly mask.
