After posting about Lewis & Woods hunting scene wallpaper and fabric I investigated their range further to discover two more equine themed wallpapers (and fabrics).
Here we have the very dramatic Gilpen Horses:
"A set of six etchings from 1760 of the working horse by Sawrey Gilpin was the starting point for this fabric and wallpaper. Employed by the Duke of Cumberland to paint portraits of his thoroughbreds, Gilpin's mastery of equine art is celebrated in this design which works particularly well in corridors and cloakrooms."
Sawrey Gilpin (1760- 1807) was born at Scaleby Castle, a few miles north east of Carlisle, and educated at the Carlisle Grammar School. He became a famous painter, illustrator and etcher specialising in horses and dogs who was made a Royal Academician in 1797.
Next we have Equus:
"Accomplished equine artist Jo Taylor drew this work especially for Lewis & Wood in two subtle and appropriately named colour ways - Bay and Grey. Perfect for any equestrian themed room scheme"
"Jo does a lot of watching horses; in racing stables and on windy gallops, in the Camargue marshes and at Portuguese Horse Fairs, out in Montana cattle country and on the South African plains. Watching looking, making sketches, remembering the lift of a hoof, the curve of a neck, the line of a muscle".
