Carrots for ponies

Carrots are good for ponies (and children) they are high in betacarotenes, vitamin A, B, C and K, they also supply good levels of some minerals and are relatively low in calories so they make the perfect treat. As an added bonus carrots are also high in moisure content so they make a great succulent for horses.

When feeding carrots to ponies remember they should either be fed whole or sliced lengthwise. Never chop them into those circles as equines can choke on them.

Olga says that her donkeys can make you happy and that they will bring a big smile to your face each day. I think she's right.

Children and their Ponies at a Horse Show

So today was spent at a small horse show and here are some unforgettable images of small children on their ponies:

The little ones look adorable, this tot's legs don't reach past the saddle flaps.

Love the colourful ribbons in this little girl's pig-tails, she is trotting her pony for the judges.

This brother, sister, Shetland trio were irresistably cute, so well turned out.

And just look at the delight on the little girl's face when her pony was placed 1st.

Rosebay Willowherb for the ponies

The ponies like to eat the flowering heads of Rosebay Willowherb, it won't harm them. In fact some Native American tribes used to grow Rosebay Willowherb as stock feed and in some countries it is eaten as a vegetable, made into a tea and used for medicinal purposes.

Rosebay Willowherb has lots of names here are just a few:

It's Latin name is Chamerion angustifolium it is also known as

Fireweed

Wild Phlox

Pigweed

Blooming Sally

Bomb Weed

Eyebright

Purple Rocket

Moose Weed

Rose-elder

Ranting Widow

Wild Snapdragon

and lots of other names. But whatever we care to call it the ponies like to eat Rosebay Willowherb.
